Bären (Bears) figurine
There is an AUGUST WALTHER & SOHNE figurine that some people have described incorrectly as being Koalas.

I have always considered this figurine to be Bear Cubs climbing a tree stump not Koalas.

The Bären (Bears) figurine has not been seen in any of the AUGUST WALTHER & SOHNE catalogues to date.
However confirmation that AUGUST WALTHER & SOHNE had made them can be found in a 1952 price list.

I hadn’t noticed this reference to the Bären (Bears) figurine in the price list even though I have a copy.
It was brought to my attention by an observant fellow collector from Victoria.

As you may know there would have been bears in Germany but sadly no longer and as AUGUST WALTHER & SOHNE is a German company need I say more?

When this figurine was conceived the designer may have been looking back into the past nostalgically at what was.

The pictures below of Koalas and Bear Cubs demonstrate just how totally different these two animals are in appearance.

It is a compelling argument Neil, and I agree with you that the name should be changed or more correctly what people have been calling it changed. Peoples habits die hard but it well get out there :)

I agree also that they are not a Koala. Definitely look like Bear Cubs

I have this flower frog in pottery as well. Up to now I have not come across another

I have one in white and they are definitely bear cubs.
